If your company offers international giving, Bright Funds works with multiple international disbursement partners to wire donations to nonprofits based outside of the US. Donations are typically sent to our disbursement partner two months after your donation, and our disbursement partner wires the funds to the nonprofit a few weeks later.

Here are the status updates you will see along the way!

"Scheduled" - your donation has been received by Bright Funds, and is scheduled to be sent out in our next monthly disbursement.

"Disbursed" - your donation was disbursed to the nonprofit.

"Held" - we have yet to receive confirmation that the donation has been successfully disbursed by our partners. You can contact our team using the chat bubble in the bottom corner with any questions.

Timeline for matching donations to nonprofits based outside the U.S.

Matching gifts will typically be sent via Bright Funds or to our disbursement partner two months after it is approved.

For donations through our disbursement partner, they would wire the funds to the nonprofit a few weeks later. Here is a general step-by-step timeline:

  1. If your company offers matching, after a match request is created, it is approved as long as it meets your company’s matching gift criteria.

  2. Once approved, the status changes from “Awaiting approval” to “Awaiting transfer.”

  3. On the 1st of the following month, Brights Funds invoices your company for the matching funds.

  4. Once we receive the matching funds from your company, Bright Funds queues the funds to be sent, which is typically the next month.

  5. Once the funds are confirmed as successfully sent to the nonprofit, the status of your donation will read as “Disbursed”.

Example:

  1. You submit a match request in January. It is approved within that same month by your company.

  2. The status changes from “Awaiting approval” to “Awaiting transfer from your company.

  3.  On the 1st of the following month, in this example February 1, Brights Funds invoices your company for the matching funds.

  4. When the invoice is paid by your company (typically before the end of the month), the status of the matching gift will change to “Received by Bright Funds" - in this example this would happen in February.

  5. You will then see the status update to "Scheduled" meaning the funds are scheduled to be disbursed.

    1. If disbursed directly by Bright Funds, the status will display as “Disbursed” as soon as the nonprofit has verified their charitable status and bank account information with Bright Funds.

      1. Direct disbursement should occur in the same month (March) or following month (April) depending on the responsiveness of the nonprofit.

    2. If disbursed by our disbursement partner, in March, our partner queues the matching gift for their next disbursement, typically to be done in the following weeks, and wires your matching gift to the nonprofit.

If there was a hitch with the disbursement of the match, the status will display as "Held", and you can reach out to our team using the chat bubble to get more information.

Note: For matching donations, the two-month timeline is contingent on Bright Funds receiving the matching funds from the matching company, and may extend beyond that timeframe.
