Donations to nonprofits based outside of the US

If your company offers international giving, Bright Funds works with multiple international disbursement partners to wire donations to nonprofits based outside of the US. Donations typically reach the nonprofit within 2 months after the donation is made. Here is a general step-by-step timeline:

  1. You make a donation to your nonprofit based outside of the US.
  2. The following month, Bright Funds sends the donation to our international disbursement partner.
  3. Our partner queues the donation for their next disbursement, and wires your donation to the nonprofit.

Here are the status updates you will see along the way!

"Scheduled" - your donation has been received by Bright Funds, and is scheduled to be sent out in our next monthly disbursement.

"Disbursed" - your donation was disbursed to your selected organization(s).

"Held" - there was a hitch with the disbursement of your donation, and our team is working on it. You can contact support@brightfunds.org for more information.

Matching gifts to nonprofits based outside of the US

Once a match is approved, it will typically reach the nonprofit within 3 months. Here is a general step-by-step timeline:

  1. If your company offers matching, after a match request is created, it is approved as long as it meets your company’s matching gift criteria.
  2. Once approved, the status changes from “Awaiting approval” to “Awaiting transfer.”
  3.  On the 1st of the following month, Brights Funds invoices your company for the matching funds.
  4. Once we receive the matching funds from your company, Bright Funds queues the funds to send to our partner, and the status of your gift will change to “Matched.”
  5. The following month, Bright Funds sends the funds to our international disbursement partner.
  6. Our partner queues the matching gift for their next disbursement, and wires your matching gift to the nonprofit.
  1. You submit a match request on January 15. It is approved as long as it meets your company’s matching gift criteria.
  2. Let's say your match is approved on January 30. The status changes from “Awaiting approval” to “Awaiting transfer from your company.
  3.  On the 1st of the following month, in this example February 1, Brights Funds invoices your company for the matching funds.
  4. When the invoice is paid by your company (typically before the end of the month), the status of the matching gift will change to “Received by Bright Funds" - in this example this would happen in February.
  5. You will then see the status update to "Scheduled" meaning the funds will be transferred to our international disbursement in the middle of the following month - in this example, mid-March.
  6. In March, our partner queues the matching gift for their next disbursement, and wires your matching gift to the nonprofit. The status of the match will update to "Disbursed." Hooray!
  7. The nonprofit can expect to receive the funds around the end of the month, or into the beginning of the next month.
  8. If there was a hitch with the disbursement of the match, the status will display as "Held" and you can get in touch with our team at support@brightfunds.org for more information.
